“I am pleased to present you with an important historical document - an award certificate confirming that your father Kemel Tokayev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union,” Vladimir Putin said as he presented the document.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked the Russian president and government, noting that this recognition is of great importance to his family. He also recalled that his uncle was buried in a mass grave near Rzhev and expressed special gratitude to Putin for the initiative taken by Russia to place his portrait on a memorial plaque dedicated to the Russian soldier in Rzhev.
