Curious incident: Will the speeding duck in Switzerland be fined?

In the Swiss commune of Köniz, a road safety camera recorded an unusual "violator." This time, the camera did not capture a car or motorcycle but rather... a duck. What’s astonishing is that this bird exceeded the designated speed limit in the area.

According to Berner Zeitung, the local authorities officially released the image of the duck. It turns out that in the area where the camera was installed, the speed limit for vehicles is set at 30 kilometers per hour. However, the "offending" duck ignored this rule and flew past the camera at a speed of 52 kilometers per hour.

This incident caused quite a stir among the local population. Some even believed the photo was fake and accused local officials of playing a prank. However, the police confirmed the authenticity of the image and emphasized that it was free from any kind of editing or manipulation.

“We guarantee the authenticity of the images taken by our speed cameras. These cameras are thoroughly checked every year by the Swiss Institute of Metrology. The images they produce cannot be altered,” explained representatives of the local police.

What’s even more interesting is that this is not the first time a duck has been recorded exceeding the speed limit in this area. Back in 2018, a similar duck was captured by the same camera, also flying at a speed of exactly 52 km/h. This led local officials to jokingly speculate about a "repeat offender duck."

At the same time, social media users who reacted to the incident began to wonder whether it is possible to fine a duck. However, the police explained that fines in such cases are only applicable to vehicles operated by humans. The duck remains free, as there are no legal provisions for such cases.

This event has also sparked lively discussions on social media, with many writing humorous comments. Some compared the duck to Formula 1 drivers and jokingly called it the “Ferrari Duck.”
