Beauty pageant winner imprisoned for false advertising

One of the most popular influencers on social networks in Vietnam, Miss Grand International-2021 winner Nguyen Thuc Thuy Ten, has been arrested for misleading consumers. According to the BBC, she publicly promoted biologically active supplements based on false information.

According to complaints from experts and citizens, it turned out that the composition of the pastilles (chewable candies) called “Kera Supergreens” that she actively advertised was not as rich as advertised.

Nguyen promoted these products as rich in plant fiber, claiming that each piece was “equivalent to eating several vegetables.” However, independent laboratory analysis showed that each lozenge contained only 16 mg of fiber, instead of the advertised 200 mg.

In addition, the product contained significantly higher levels of sorbitol, a substance that can cause pain and diarrhea, but no warning was given on the packaging.

Analysts also noted that components of questionable quality were used in the production, and in addition, insufficient information was provided about the product's composition.

According to the results of the investigation, it was determined that the Kera Supergreens supplement belongs to the company founded by Nguyen and his two partners. In March, the influencer apologized to the public and was fined, but now a criminal case has been opened against him.

It is noteworthy that more than 100 thousand boxes of the product were sold before the scandal broke.

Nguyen Thuc Thuy Ten is known in Vietnam not only as a beauty pageant winner, but also as a celebrity who participated in many TV shows. She was promoted by the country's leadership several times and became the face of local brands.
