Trump’s “Golden Dome” Project Raises Concerns in Beijing
The new military initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump—a global missile defense system named "Golden Dome"—has been seriously criticized by China. Beijing is evaluating this project as a threat to international strategic stability and is urging Washington to reconsider this path.

On May 20, Trump announced that responsibility for implementing this project had been assigned to U.S. Space Forces General Michael Guetlein. According to him, the "Golden Dome" program, with a total estimated cost of $175 billion, aims to fully protect the country against ballistic and hypersonic missiles.

Sharp Statement from Beijing

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning made an official statement regarding this initiative: “While seeking absolute security for itself, the United States is neglecting the security of other countries. This could not only disturb the global balance but also significantly provoke an arms race in space. China is deeply concerned by this.”

Beijing called upon the U.S. to abandon this project and to take measures to strengthen mutual trust between major powers. In particular, China believes Trump's plan could disrupt the global nuclear arms balance.

Project and Doubts Surrounding It

Although Trump stated that the "Golden Dome" system would become operational by 2029—the end of his presidential term—military analysts doubt that a system of such scale can be constructed in such a short period. According to the Congressional Budget Office’s report, at least $831 billion is required to develop a fully operational defense system.

Currently, the U.S. is considering the successful Israeli "Iron Dome" system as inspiration for this new program. However, experts point out that Israel's territory is very small compared to the United States, and the technology to fully defend such a vast territory as envisioned by the "Golden Dome" is not yet realistic.

Moscow’s Response and Analysts' Views

Russia has reacted cautiously to this initiative. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated: "If the United States believes there is a missile threat, its plan to create a defense system is quite natural. This is a normal approach for any state possessing military potential."

Nevertheless, analysts perceive Trump's project as a strategic element that could negatively impact nuclear stability. This might force other nuclear powers to reconsider their defense strategies.

Final Conclusion

Whether the "Golden Dome" is merely a tool for political capital for Trump, or indeed a revolutionary project for U.S. security, remains unclear. However, one thing is certain: military initiatives of global scale always provoke heated political and diplomatic debates.
