French farmer Michel Dupont was walking along a stream that ran through his land when he found gold in the water. The 150 tons of precious metal are estimated to be worth 4 billion euros.

“I was just doing a planned inspection on my land. At that moment, I saw a strange glow in the ground. When I dug a little deeper, I couldn’t believe what I was holding in my hands,” the farmer says.

The French government quickly intervened and confiscated the gold the farmer had found. According to the law, it must become the property of the state. If Dupont wants to carry out mining on his land, he must obtain permission from the government.

According to Michel Dupont, after the gold was discovered, demand for the areas around his land increased dramatically.

Local opinion was divided over the discovery of gold deposits. Some are concerned that if large-scale mining of the precious metal begins in the vicinity, it will damage the environment. Others see this situation as positive, as it could create new jobs.
