China’s mountains transformed by solar panels

China’s mountains transformed by solar panels
A vast solar farm has been discovered in China’s Guizhou province, where thousands of solar panels cover an entire mountain ridge, turning it into a massive power station, 4PDA reported.

Drone footage shows endless rows of solar panels blending into the horizon, creating a breathtaking futuristic landscape.

Guizhou, known for its rugged terrain and unstable weather, was once unsuitable for agriculture. However, those same conditions have made it ideal for green energy development. The first solar farms appeared less than a decade ago.

By the end of 2024, China accounted for 64% of all global solar and wind power construction projects. The country was simultaneously building facilities with a total capacity of 339 gigawatts. By comparison, the US, Brazil, UK, and Spain combined reached only 72 gigawatts.

China’s solar capacity grew from 1.75 million kW in 2018 to 15 million kW in 2023. Despite this growth, coal still generates 57% of the country’s electricity. Nevertheless, Beijing remains committed to reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.
