Napoleon's valuable sword sold at auction for 4.7 million euros

Napoleon's valuable sword sold at auction for 4.7 million euros
In Paris, Napoleon I Bonaparte's historic sword was sold at the Hotel Drouot auction for 4.7 million euros, reports Le Figaro. The weapon was initially valued between 700,000 and 1 million euros, and it has now become one of the most expensive artifacts ever sold at auction.

The result of this auction approaches the 2007 record when the sword from the Battle of Marengo sold for 4.8 million euros. The sword, which was Napoleon's personal weapon, was ordered from Nicolas-Noël Boutet, the director of the Versailles manufactory, in 1802-1803. After becoming Emperor, Napoleon kept the sword until the end of his reign, and then gifted it to Marshal Emmanuel de Grouchy.

Since then, the sword has been preserved by the descendants of the military leader. The second version of this weapon is kept in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

Additionally, in 2021, Napoleon's parade sword and five pistols were sold for 2.87 million dollars. These weapons were used by Napoleon during the 1799 coup.
