Seven people were killed and 30 others were injured in a horrific accident that occurred overnight in the Bryansk region of Russia. It is reported that a road bridge crossing the region unexpectedly collapsed onto the railway line, and at that time, passenger train No. 86, which was traveling under the bridge and was heading to Moscow from the city of Klimovo, immediately derailed and its carriages overturned.
According to a statement by the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, on his Telegram channel, seven people died and 30 others were injured as a result of the accident and were urgently hospitalized. It was reported that two young children were among them. After the accident, the Ministry of Emergency Situations examined the situation at the scene and began rescue operations for the injured passengers.
Although initial reports of the accident indicated the number of dead as three, according to the governor's subsequent information, the number of dead has reached seven. Although the Russian Investigative Committee has not yet given an exact cause for the accident, initial reports indicate that the cause of the bridge collapse was “illegal interference in transport activities.” This term is usually used when there is an explosion or other deliberate incident on the railways.
According to the Russian Railways Department, the terrible incident that occurred on the Pilshino-Vygonichi route in the Bryansk region was recorded at 22:44 at night. At the time of the incident, a train traveling under the bridge derailed, and the locomotive and its carriages overturned. Several carriages of the train were severely damaged by the collapse of the bridge structure.
At the moment, rescuers from the Russian Emergencies Ministry are continuing to disassemble the seriously damaged carriages and quickly evacuate the remaining passengers and injured people to safe areas. Rescuers are still checking every nook and cranny, considering that there may still be people at the scene.
Representatives of the Russian Investigative Committee have begun an investigation into the incident, and the area where the bridge collapsed is under full surveillance. Telegram channels Baza and Shot, which are close to Russian security forces, reported that the accident was caused by an explosion. However, so far, official authorities have not given any concrete answers to these claims and have not given any explanation for the cause of the explosion.
Governor Alexander Bogomaz also noted that those injured in the accident who are in serious condition can be immediately taken to specialized hospitals in Moscow by special medical services.
The Russian Railways Administration has organized the transportation of uninjured passengers by buses to the Bryansk-Orlovsky railway station. At the same time, the A-240 highway passing through the Bryansk region has been completely closed due to the accident.
At the time of the accident, a heavy truck belonging to Miratorg, one of Russia's largest agricultural holdings, was on the bridge. Its driver was also seriously injured and is receiving emergency medical care. This was reported by RBC, citing the company's press service.
This incident is considered one of the most serious and terrible disasters in the Bryansk region. This region is located in the part of Russia bordering Ukraine, and the occurrence of such incidents requires additional safety measures. The exact causes are still being investigated, and officials have promised to provide additional information about the causes and consequences of this tragic accident.
