An emergency situation occurred in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi — more than 200 prisoners managed to escape from the Malir district prison during a minor earthquake. This was reported by local media citing the police.
According to the information, due to the natural disaster, a large-scale evacuation was carried out in the prison. Nearly 2000 inmates were relocated to other facilities, but 213 of them were left unsupervised, broke the order, and fled from the prison.
The government responded immediately, and police forces surrounded the prison area. While the search for escapees continues, 78 inmates have been recaptured. Unfortunately, one person was killed during the operation, and three security officers sustained various degrees of injuries.
Currently, search operations for the escaped prisoners and efforts to control the situation are continuing consistently. Officials have announced that a special investigation into the incident has been launched.
Local residents, alarmed by the event, have seen increased security measures in the city. It is expected that the security system in Karachi's prisons will be reviewed. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
