Tater, an American who fled Moscow, mysteriously disappeared
US citizen Joseph Tater, who was detained in Russia and forcibly placed in a psychiatric hospital by a court order, has reportedly left the territory of Russia. This was reported by TASS on June 6, citing sources in law enforcement agencies.

According to reports, Tater was being held at the N.A. Alekseev Psychiatric Clinic in Moscow. Doctors said that there were no medical grounds for his detention and decided to release him from the hospital on an outpatient basis. But the most surprising thing is that he somehow left the institution where he was sent for treatment by a court order, and there is no exact information about his current whereabouts.

According to TASS sources, Tater left the Russian Federation. This situation seems to have come as a surprise even to the authorities. His lawyer Polina Vlasyuk, in a statement to the media, stated that she was “completely unaware of such an incident.”

Joseph Tater, 46, was arrested in August 2024 after an incident at the Radisson Blu Olympiyskiy Hotel in Moscow. According to the investigation, he had a fight with hotel staff upon entering the hotel and then violently resisted a police officer who arrived to stop him. On this basis, he was charged with “violence against a government official” under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

A report published by Reuters in May 2024 stated that Tater’s name was on a list of citizens accused of various crimes in Russia and who could be extradited by the United States. He was considered one of the individuals who could be extradited as part of a possible “exchange” between the United States and Russia.

There is currently no official information about where Tater went, how he left the country, or which country he might be in next. This situation raises serious questions about the activity of Russian law enforcement agencies, the control system in judicial and medical institutions.
