German city offers free housing to those who want to live
The city of Eisenhüttenstadt in eastern Germany is implementing a unique initiative to increase its population and attract new residents. The city administration says that those who wish will be provided with fully furnished apartments free of charge for two weeks in September 2025.

Eisenhüttenstadt is located 96 kilometers from Berlin, close to the border with Poland. The initiative is part of an innovative immigration program called “Plan Now.” The goal is to revitalize the city, develop infrastructure and increase the population.

According to the administration, the program is mainly aimed at qualified professionals, freelancers and people with their own businesses who are thinking about moving to live permanently. Participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with life in the city, the labor market, infrastructure and opportunities from September 6 to September 20.

Eisenhüttenstadt is a historically and economically important city. It was founded in 1950 by the East German government and was previously known as Stalinstadt. After German reunification, the name was changed to its current form. The city still retains architectural examples from the socialist era, which are registered as historical monuments.

Currently, about 24 thousand people live here, and one of the largest steel plants in Germany operates in the city. The plant provides permanent employment to 2,500 people and plays an important role in the city's economy.

Thus, this initiative in Germany is expected to give impetus not only to new residents, but also to economic and social development.
