Iran may withdraw from nuclear agreement — parliamentary threat
Iran may suspend relations with the IAEA
The airstrikes carried out by the United States on Iran's nuclear infrastructure have caused serious political tension inside the country. A majority of members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Majlis (unicameral parliament) have supported the country’s withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

According to committee member Ebrahim Rezaei, who spoke in an interview with the Tasnim agency, in response to the latest U.S. military operation, calls to review or even completely halt cooperation with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) are growing.

“Most members of the committee expressed dissatisfaction with the IAEA’s activities, stating that the agency is not fulfilling its duties fairly. Therefore, they are demanding the termination or revision of this cooperation. In the upcoming parliamentary session, our committee plans to include the issue of participation in the NPT and the possibility of Iran’s withdrawal from the treaty in the agenda,” Rezaei said in an interview with Tasnim agency.

Such a potential decision could lead to serious consequences not only for Iran, but for the entire international nuclear control system. Iran’s withdrawal from the NPT will undermine international trust in the country’s nuclear intentions and further increase regional instability.

International experts assess the possibility of Iran making this decision as a dangerous stage. Because if the IAEA’s access to nuclear sites is restricted, oversight of nuclear activity will be lost and this may be seen as a threat to security.

At the same time, recent U.S. airstrikes and the political criticism that followed may disrupt the balance in the Middle East and replace diplomatic solutions with militarized policy.

Now, the whole world is closely watching the discussions in Iran’s Majlis and the decisions Tehran will make.
