Since the beginning of this year, aircraft belonging to the Russian Air Force have accidentally dropped a total of 94 aerial bombs on Russian territory and Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, according to a report by “Astra”.
The incidents were mainly recorded in regions bordering Ukraine and in parts of Donetsk and Luhansk that have been under Russian control since 2014. Of the bombs dropped, 87 were standard munitions, while 7 were high-precision "smart" bombs. Additionally, three missiles were reported to have fallen due to unknown reasons.
The latest incident occurred on June 21 near the town of Dokuchaevsk in the Kalmius district of Donetsk. A 500-kg FAB-500 bomb fell from a Russian jet and damaged several homes in the village of Yangi Olenovka — roofs were pierced and windows shattered. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
A similar event took place on June 11 in the village of Dolgiy Kolodez, Kursk region, where a bomb fell into a garden plot and created a large crater.
According to analysis, between June 2 and June 21 alone, at least 10 bombs were mistakenly dropped near the border. Two landed near Debaltseve, two near Makiivka, two in Belgorod region, and others near Chernukhino, Volnovakha, and Yasynuvata.
In total, at least 165 bombs have been dropped on Russian soil and occupied Ukrainian territories in 2024. These incidents are believed to be caused by technical failures or human error.
