Erdogan and Trump Meeting: New Trade and Peace Issues Discussed at NATO

This time, The Hague, Netherlands, brought together the world’s most important figures on the global political stage. On the eve of the NATO summit, the meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump was held in close quarters and became the focus of international attention.

Important Dialogue Behind Closed Doors

Initially, a traditional dinner was organized with great respect by the King of the Netherlands for the NATO summit leaders and their spouses. After this friendly environment, the leaders of the two countries discussed strategic issues behind closed doors, away from the broad audience.

Defense and Trade: Towards New Goals

Relations between Turkey and the US now go beyond traditional military partnership and are moving towards expanding bilateral economic cooperation and trade volume. During the meeting, President Erdoğan specifically highlighted expanding cooperation and joint projects in the defense industry to reach a trade turnover of 100 billion dollars between the two countries.

Peace Process and Regional Stability

During the meeting, Erdoğan praised US President Trump’s efforts in achieving a ceasefire between Israel and Iran and emphasized that he prays for the sustainability of this peace process. The Turkish leader underlined the necessity to quickly resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine through diplomatic means.

Power and Deterrence Strategy in NATO

As leading allies of NATO, Turkey and the US also exchanged views on steps and prospects to further strengthen the Alliance’s deterrence capacity in the region.
