Father Jumps into Sea for Daughter: Dramatic Rescue on Disney Cruise

The final day of the Disney Dream cruise ship returning to Fort Lauderdale witnessed a dramatic scene: a father jumped into the sea from the fourth deck of the 14-story ship to rescue his young daughter, who had accidentally fallen overboard. The incident shocked many passengers on board but had a positive ending.

According to witnesses, the event occurred during a photo session. The girl lost her balance and fell overboard while being photographed near the ship's railing. Her father immediately jumped into the water to try to rescue her.

“We saw them fall into the sea and then they disappeared right away. It happened so fast, they looked like tiny dots in the water,” said one passenger, Laura Amador, in an interview with CBS News.

Thanks to the captain’s quick response, the ship’s movement was slowed and turned around. A special rescue boat – a tender – was lowered into the water and successfully rescued the father and daughter after they spent about 10 minutes in the sea.

In an official statement, Disney Cruise Line said:
“The crew aboard Disney Dream quickly rescued two guests from the water. We acknowledge the crew’s high level of training and swift response to the emergency. This ensured the guests returned safely to the ship.”

Videos of the incident quickly spread on social media. In the footage, passengers are seen cheering with joy as they watch the rescue operation.

The ship was on a four-day cruise around the Bahamas and was returning to the port of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The incident occurred on the last day of the cruise, and the ship arrived at the port as scheduled.

Such incidents are rare in the travel industry. According to a 2019 report from Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), 25 people fell from cruise ships that year, and only 9 were rescued.
