60-day truce in Gaza: has new hope emerged in the Middle East?
Against the background of historical disputes and conflicts in the Middle East, a new truce test is expected to begin in the Gaza Strip, reports rbc.ru. After negotiations with American officials, the Israeli government agreed to the conditions for a 60-day ceasefire. For the successful implementation of this agreement, Washington has taken on the main mediation role, while the final terms will be determined by Qatar and Egypt.

US President Donald Trump, acting as the main guarantor of this truce, commented on social media: “There will be no better opportunity for HAMAS — only worse ones.” According to Trump, the US will work directly with all parties during this period and strive to achieve real results.

At the center of the negotiations is the visit of Israel’s Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer to Washington and his lengthy talks with Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, the Secretary of State, and the Vice President. According to The Times of Israel, these meetings were very productive and important for the future.

The updated truce formula is widely discussed in the public and international media. According to Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera, the agreement is implemented step by step: first, Israeli hostages are released and the bodies of the deceased are exchanged for Palestinian prisoners, after which Israel temporarily suspends its military operations and moves its troops to the south of Gaza. From the very first day of the truce, long-term peace negotiations begin.

There are still many open questions between the parties regarding these negotiations and the temporary truce. At the end of May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his readiness to accept the US proposal, while HAMAS stated that it is still considering the decision. The biggest problem is that it remains unclear what will happen after the 60-day ceasefire ends. Therefore, this truce looks more like a temporary “breather”.

At a time when there is renewed hope for stable peace and a new stage in the Middle East, the attention of the international community is focused on the developments in Gaza. The results of the negotiations, the political will of the parties, and most importantly, the decisions taken in the interests of the peoples, may seriously influence the future of the region.
