The US is using robots to protect airports

The United States of America has started using new wheeled robots to enhance airport safety. These robots are primarily designed to eliminate threats posed by wildlife and birds.

Birds pose a serious risk to airports. They can enter aircraft engines, cause severe technical malfunctions, and even lead to catastrophic incidents. Birds may also crack cockpit windows and damage control systems. Additionally, land mammals — such as rabbits, deer, and other animals — can enter runways, damage equipment, dig holes, and pose structural threats.

The newly developed robots are designed to scare off and drive away such wild animals. Each unit costs approximately $3,000 and is capable of patrolling airport areas and responding to the presence of animals.

Inventors plan to further improve these robots in the future. They intend to equip them with features similar to modern drones: programmable routes, adaptation to different environments, autonomous operation for several days, and object recognition systems.
