In the modern military technology market, Germany has taken a new step: at the LandEuro 2025 exhibition, Rheinmetall presented its latest development — the Skyranger 30 mobile air defense system. This new generation weapons system is expected to have strategic importance not only for the country, but for all of Europe and NATO.
The Skyranger 30 complex is equipped with a 30mm cannon with programmable AHEAD ammunition. This device is capable of simultaneously detecting, tracking, and destroying up to eight air targets — unmanned drones, new types of munitions, and conventional aerial objects. Tests have shown that the system demonstrates high effectiveness even against small and low-observable targets flying at speeds up to 300 m/s.
Another innovative aspect of the Skyranger 30 is its “open architecture” principle. Thanks to this, the system can integrate radars, optoelectronic stations, anti-aircraft missiles, and electronic warfare equipment. This gives the system not only adaptability to current threats, but also scalability and the ability to counter future threats.
This development has aroused great interest in the European defense industry. Rheinmetall has already received a number of orders from NATO countries, and analysts predict that the market for Skyranger 30 and similar systems will exceed 15 billion euros in the next five years.
Analysts note that systems like Skyranger 30 play an important role for the military amid growing threats from drones and new generations of aerial weapons.
