From 2024, the war in Ukraine has entered a new stage, which differs significantly from the beginning of Russia's invasion, said Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to him, the enemy has radically changed its approach to military operations and now employs tactics aimed more at exhausting both the army and the civilian population, rather than advancing forward.
Zaluzhnyi emphasized that if Ukraine only attempts to cease fire, the war may continue. He stated that the war, which began in 2014, could end only by 2034. He also added that at this stage, Ukraine must work more actively to shape its defense, reassessing its strategy and mobilizing resources accordingly.
The former commander recalled that in the early phase of the war, in 2022, tanks and other equipment, along with a large number of personnel, were on the move. The war, resembling World War II, ended in December 2023, and since then, tanks and soldiers "switched places."
According to Zaluzhnyi, the front line now primarily targets the elimination of fighters. This updated tactic and strategy will help Ukraine apply a new form of defense, but it requires a reassessment of the country’s defensive capabilities.
Zaluzhnyi noted that today's battles could be either successful or unsuccessful for both sides, as any major resistance and psychological pressure play a decisive role in these operations.
