In Russia, the “normal life” cost for the wealthy is 250,000 rubles per month

According to a survey conducted among Russia’s high-income population, a single person needs at least 250,000 rubles per month (approximately the equivalent of 32 thousand dollars in Uzbek sums) to live what they consider a “normal life.” This was reported by Pravilamag, citing a study by the Higher School of Economics titled “High-Income Russians: Status Consumption and Consumer Priorities.”

The study surveyed representatives of the top 10% of the country’s population by income level. Interestingly, 75% of respondents rated their financial situation as “average.”

Wealth threshold — respondents said that an income of 500,000 rubles per month per person or more is considered a sign of true wealth.

According to Rosstat data, in 2025 the number of Russians earning 1 million rubles or more per month exceeded 45,000 people, doubling over the past two years. In 2023, this number was 24,400.

These figures illustrate the significant income gap in Russia and show that the high-income group’s idea of a normal standard of living differs sharply from that of the average population.
