Rare coins from the Timurid era discovered during excavations at Bibikhanim fortress

In the historic "Bibikhanum" fortress, located in the city of Bokhtar, Khatlon Region, Tajikistan, archaeological excavations have yielded unexpected discoveries from the very first days. According to the press service of the regional hokimiyat, during the research, copper coins from the Timurid and Manghit periods were found, reports "Sputnik Tajikistan."

Ancient coins and their history
On August 12, 2025, scientists from the Agency for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Tajikistan began official archaeological excavations on a hill near the "Bibikhanum" fortress. On the very first day, specialists discovered two unique artifacts. One coin dates back to the 15th–16th centuries, during the Timurid dynasty's rule, and the other to the 16th–17th centuries, when the Manghit rulers were in power.

Other archaeological finds
In addition to the copper coins, archaeologists also found fragments of ceramic items and broken jugs, which can provide valuable insights into the daily life and cultural development of the people of that time.

Significance of the scientific research
It is noted that these archaeological excavations will continue until August 17. Scientists emphasize that these findings are important not only for studying the history of Bokhtar but also for understanding the cultural and economic relations of Medieval Central Asia.
