In Spain, extreme heat is making it difficult to extinguish 20 major wildfires. The government has deployed an additional 500 military personnel to help fight the flames.
In the Galicia region, several fires merged into one large blaze. As a result, some roads and rail services have been temporarily suspended.
Over the past week, the fires have claimed three lives and burned more than 115,000 hectares. In Portugal, wildfires have also spread widely, causing significant damage.
Experts say temperatures in some areas may rise to 45 degrees Celsius. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez acknowledged the severity of the situation and announced the deployment of more military forces.
According to officials, a slight cooling is expected starting Tuesday. For now, however, the high temperatures and dry weather are making firefighting extremely difficult.
