A fighter jet belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force caught fire during take-off at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah International Airport, located in the city of Kuantan.
According to the news portal The Star, the incident occurred shortly after the aircraft took off. The military aircraft lost control after a short flight due to the fire and crashed to the ground.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence reported that the two pilots on board managed to eject using a modern safety system. Both were taken to hospital, and their lives are not in danger.
At present, the causes of the fighter jet crash are being investigated. Specialists have set up a special commission to determine whether technical failure or other possible factors were responsible.
The airport in Kuantan is considered one of the country’s most important military and civilian aviation hubs. Therefore, the incident has attracted significant public interest and concern in Malaysia.
Officials stated that the results of the investigation will be announced in the near future.
