Ukraine returned 65 citizens stranded at the Russia–Georgia border

The Ukrainian government has taken another important humanitarian step. According to official reports, 65 Ukrainians who had found themselves stranded in the buffer zone at the Russia–Georgia border were brought back home. This was announced by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko on their pages.

It is reported that among those returned were 10 women and 8 seriously ill individuals. They were delivered to Ukraine through Moldova in transit. Sybiha and Klymenko emphasized that these citizens had been trapped in dire conditions of a humanitarian crisis at the “Dariali” checkpoint in Georgia, caused by Russia’s actions.

According to the ministers, Ukrainian diplomats and consular services played an active role in the process. They undertook all measures not only to return the citizens but also to improve the conditions at the border. Moreover, the involvement of international organizations accelerated the process.

According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in recent months a total of 44 citizens had already been returned. With this latest group, the total number of Ukrainians returned from the “Dariali” checkpoint has reached 109. This demonstrates the Ukrainian government’s firm commitment to the fate and safety of its citizens.

Experts note that such initiatives are important not only from a humanitarian perspective but also for strengthening Ukraine’s reputation on the international stage. Both experts and the public hope that even more citizens will be returned.
