Teenagers planning attack at Eiffel Tower arrested

French police arrested two teenagers aged 15 and 17. They are suspected of preparing a terrorist act against the Eiffel Tower and synagogues. This was reported by Le Figaro.

According to the information, the teenagers were born in the suburbs of Paris and grew up in “Arab-Muslim families”. They sympathized with the ideas of the ISIS group, regularly exchanged content of "ultraviolent" and discussed plans to “go for jihad” abroad. Recently, however, they started talking about carrying out attacks directly in France. In particular, they mentioned the Eiffel Tower and synagogues in the context of Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip.

According to the publication, although the teenagers had not yet made a final decision on the place of the attack, they had already started searching for weapons through the dark web. On August 1, the teenagers appeared in court accused of “criminal conspiracy for the purpose of terrorism”.

Le Figaro writes about an alarming trend: if in 2022 only 2 minors were arrested on terrorism charges, in 2023 their number reached 15, in 2024 – 18, and since the beginning of 2025 – another 13. According to Europol’s report last year, almost one third of those suspected and arrested for terrorism in the European Union were under 20 years old. Therefore, in May of this year, the French National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office created a special division for working with minors.
