The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported on Telegram on Monday, September 1, that drones destroyed two Russian Mi-8 helicopters at the Gvardeyskoye airfield in the Simferopol district of Crimea, annexed by the Russian Federation. According to the official statement, damage to the airfield infrastructure was also noted as a result of the attack - the operation was carried out according to a reconnaissance plan.
According to GUR data, the estimated cost of the decommissioned helicopters ranges from $20 million to $30 million. It was also reported that a raided tugboat - possibly BUK-2190 - was destroyed in the Sevastopol Bay. The source noted this episode with special emphasis.
It is noted that the raid tugboat is a component of underwater diversion forces and resources (a reconnaissance diving unit). In the comments of the GUR press service, it was assessed that "the damage to the tugboat significantly limits the combat capabilities of the elite Russian unit" - that is, a direct blow to the fleet's ability to perform special tasks.
In short, the destruction of the Mi-8 at the Gvardeyskoye airfield and the breakdown of the tow truck in Sevastopol are being interpreted as another territorial offensive aimed at weakening the logistical and special operations capabilities of the joint front. Further technical details of the operation have not yet been disclosed.
