In the Republic of Yemen, a serious threat to human health still persists. Cholera is out of control in the country and spreading widely among the population. According to the World Health Organization's (WHO) office in Yemen, this disease is recognized as "one of the worst epidemics in world history," and 96 percent of the country's territory is affected by this plague. From January to mid-July, more than 50,000 suspected cases of infection were recorded, and 149 patients died.
Doctors and medical professionals emphasize that providing effective medical care to patients has become more challenging due to airstrikes carried out by the US and its partner countries, as well as disruptions in humanitarian aid. One-third of the country's hospitals are closed, nearly 80% of the population relies on foreign aid, with more than half of it coming from the USA. Due to infrastructure damage and medication shortages, even cases requiring simple treatment are leading to tragic consequences.
Experts advise the population to always use clean water, strictly follow personal hygiene rules, and immediately seek medical attention when symptoms appear. These measures are crucial for preserving patients' health and reducing the spread of the epidemic.
