In Australia, Erin Patterson, who killed three relatives with food containing poisonous mushrooms, was sentenced to 33 years in prison. This is one of the harshest punishments ever given to a female offender in the state of Victoria.
The judge said Patterson had planned the crime in advance and showed no remorse. She was found guilty of murdering her mother-in-law, father-in-law, and their relative. Another relative survived.
The crime caused great harm to the victims’ families. The judge emphasized that Patterson not only took three lives but also inflicted emotional suffering on their loved ones.
Patterson continues to claim she is innocent. After serving 33 years, she will be eligible for parole.
