An unusual event in Germany sparked widespread discussion. It was revealed that a vocational college teacher in Wesel, one of the North Rhine-Westphalia lands, had been receiving regular salary despite not being employed for 16 years. This was reported by Oddity Central.
According to the information, the female teacher has been officially on sick leave since 2009. He provided a medical certificate every month, thereby earning a salary without interruption. As a result, he was paid approximately 1 million euros over 16 years. The average monthly salary exceeded 6.1 thousand euros (almost 90 million soums).
This situation became known after the change of school leadership. The new administration decided to investigate the teacher's condition and urged her to undergo a medical examination. However, the teacher assessed this decision as unfair and brought the matter to court.
During the trial, the teacher defended the legality of the payment received through long-term sick leave. However, the court upheld the school's case. According to the court verdict, the teacher is not only obligated to return the salary, but also to reimburse the court costs in the amount of 2.5 thousand euros.
The judge called this situation "incomprehensible." Because the teacher hadn't attended classes for 16 years, but constantly submitted new medical certificates. Thus, he continued to receive a salary without any obstacles.
According to German laws, teachers are equated to civil servants. Therefore, they have the right to unlimited sick leave and can receive full wages during this period. However, according to the law, engaging in other commercial activities during this period was strictly prohibited.
It turned out that the teacher, while on sick leave, created a startup specializing in the medical field. This was assessed as a violation of the basic requirements of the legislation. This situation worked against him and led to his defeat in court.
