Nearly 900 prisoners escaped from prison amid ongoing mass protests in Nepal. This was reported by India Today.
According to reports, in the city of Pokhra, protesters broke into a local prison and forced police officers to be dragged in. Employees at the scene could not control the situation.
In Kathmandu, protesters set fire to part of the Nahu prison building, allowing all prisoners to be released. Among the released prisoners was former Interior Minister Ravi Lamichane. His supporters instructed him and took him home.
Currently, the situation in these two cities continues to be acute and uncontrolled. The authorities significantly strengthened security measures and deployed additional police forces.
As a reminder, at least 22 people were killed during the protests and violent demonstrations in Nepal, and hundreds were injured to varying degrees. Security forces opened fire on protesters near the Federal Parliament building. Later, protesters also raided important government buildings, including the parliament building and the presidential residence in Shital Niwas.
It was also reported that Rajyalakshmi, the wife of former Prime Minister of Nepal, Jalanat Khonal, died as a result of an attack on protesters' homes in Chitrakar. Protesters claim to have taken control of the situation in the country, but Nepalese authorities deny this information.
The state of discontent and unrest in the country has not yet become outdated, and officials and security forces are taking regular measures to stabilize the situation.
