On Tuesday, September 16, Israel launched the main phase of its ground offensive on Gaza City, Kursiv Media reported, citing the Israeli defense ministry.
According to the IDF, Israeli forces are advancing toward the city center, where up to 3,000 Hamas fighters are believed to remain. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the goal is to destroy Hamas infrastructure and enable hostage rescues.
Gaza officials reported that at least 40 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the first hours of airstrikes. Residents confirmed tanks entered residential districts. Israel again urged civilians to evacuate.
On the same day, the UN commission accused Israel of genocide in Gaza and inciting it at the highest political level, including PM Netanyahu. Gaza’s health ministry also reported three new deaths from starvation, including a child — bringing the total to 428.
