Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been hospitalized again due to health problems. This was announced by his son, Flavio Bolsonaro, on his social network X (formerly Twitter).
According to him, on the evening of September 16, his father felt unwell. In particular, hiccups were observed, blood pressure dropped sharply, and nausea worsened. Therefore, he was taken to the DF Star clinic under police supervision. Flavio called this a "state of emergency."
Bolsonaro's husband, former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro, also stated in her statement that her husband has undergone a series of medical examinations and is currently receiving intravenous injections.
As a reminder, last week Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced by the court to 27 years and 3 months in prison for allegedly planning a coup d'état. During the trial, the former president was charged with attempting to organize unconstitutional actions to remain in power after his defeat in the 2022 elections.
Bolsonaro continues to deny his guilt. His supporters and lawyers assess this court decision as political persecution.
Jair Bolsonaro is considered one of the most controversial and far-right representatives of Brazilian politics. He led the country from 2019 to 2022, and lost to Lula da Silva in the next election. The politician resigned, although he did not officially admit defeat.
In January 2023, his supporters, dissatisfied with the election results, organized mass demonstrations and riots in the Brazilian capital. They even attempted to seize government buildings, which caused a huge uproar worldwide.
The former president has experienced health problems many times before. He was seriously wounded by a knife during his campaign seven years ago and has since been hospitalized several times.
