Internet is being restricted in Afghanistan under the pretext of "fighting sins"

Authorities in Afghanistan have begun limiting access to fiber-optic internet, citing the need to combat “sins,” Kursiv media reported.

According to the Taliban’s directive, internet access has already been shut off in the Balkh province. Local officials justify the move as part of a fight against immorality.

The shutdown has disrupted passport services and customs operations. Six ministers have traveled to Kandahar to assess the impact. Journalist Bilal Sarwary reports that a dispute erupted between the governor and the communications minister in Mazar-i-Sharif, while opposition to hard restrictions remains in Kabul.
