Brazil’s president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said in an interview that he has no relationship with US president Donald Trump. He called Trump’s 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods a political decision and stressed that it would make products more expensive for American consumers.
Lula said he had never spoken directly with Trump. According to him, he learned about the tariffs from the press. Lula also criticised Trump for announcing decisions not through diplomacy but via social media.
The president also spoke about former president Jair Bolsonaro. He reminded that Bolsonaro had attempted to stage a coup in the country and was sentenced by the court to 27 years in prison. Lula also condemned Trump for defending Bolsonaro.
Lula said that reforms in the UN are necessary, emphasising that the five permanent members hold excessive power. He added that while maintaining cooperation with Russia and China, Brazil does not support the war in Ukraine.
