In South Korea, a 50-year-old man made almost 60,000 calls to the police over a two-year period out of boredom. This was reported by The Korea Herald.
According to reports, during this time he made a total of 58,307 calls, which is an average of about 80 per day. The peak activity occurred in May 2024 — within four days, the man contacted law enforcement nearly 2,000 times.
It was noted that he had previously been punished administratively for nuisance calls, but he strongly disliked a new bill. Therefore, he continued to call the police repeatedly.
During the calls, the man made various false statements: he threatened to kill his younger brother or claimed that he had been held captive for the past 10 years. Investigation revealed that more than 50 of the calls fell into the category of serious crimes.
Currently, he is under investigation for obstructing official duties. The man explained such attempts to contact the police as his way of coping with loneliness. In many cases, he stayed home alone, drank, and then started calling the police.
According to reports, he may face up to five years in prison or a fine of 10 million won.
