NASA preparing for asteroid that may pose threat in 2032

NASA experts are studying the potential danger related to an asteroid called 2024 YR4. According to scientists, this object may pose a threat to the Moon’s orbits in 2032.

The first option — slightly change the asteroid’s trajectory. This could make it possible to avoid a collision. However, if its exact mass is not taken into account, there is a risk of the opposite outcome.

The second option — completely destroy the asteroid. Calculations show that an approximately one-megaton nuclear explosion could break 2024 YR4 into small and harmless fragments.

Experts emphasize that the data about the asteroid is still insufficient. Therefore, its close approach in 2028 is planned to be used for more accurate study.
