Social pensions for migrants may be cancelled in Russia

In Russia, Leonid Slutsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR), proposed abolishing the payment of social pensions to migrants. He announced this in an interview with “Gazeta.ru”, reports Kursiv Media.

According to Slutsky, amid the complex social and economic situation in the country, particularly due to military operations, demographic crisis, and budgetary pressure, every ruble counts. “At such times, pensions should be given only to our own citizens,” he said.

According to statistics, about 600,000 migrants came to Russia last year, which is a record figure for the past 30 years.

If this proposal is accepted, it may reduce the pressure on Russia's budget and pension system. According to the current legislation, migrants are entitled to a social pension if they have lived in Russia for at least 15 years and have reached retirement age.
