Doctors in Novosibirsk, Russia, have created a true miracle in the medical field - they restored a new nose to a girl who had been living without it for 14 years. This was announced by the Ministry of Health of Novosibirsk region.
The girl was born with a congenital defect - nasal atresia. In this case, the human nasal passages and external nose are not fully formed. As a result, the girl faced difficulties breathing from childhood and had low self-confidence due to her appearance. However, thanks to the doctors' hard work and patience, her life has completely changed, reports Novosibmed.ru.
This was a long and difficult path - the restoration process took several years. The first surgical operation was performed when the girl was still small. Each operation lasted several hours, as forming a delicate organ like the nose is a very complex process.
According to the Ministry, doctors used a fascia in the patient's temporal region to restore the inner part of the nose. Based on this, a free skin segment was transplanted, and nasal passages were created. In the next stage, restoration of the external nose began. To form a strong support, a cartilage was taken from the patient's rib and used as a base for the new nasal form.
In the third stage, doctors restored the external part of the nose in perfect form using a piece of skin and cartilage taken from the ear pad.
"Now the girl not only breathes freely but can also live in society with self-confidence. His new nose has acquired a natural appearance, and he no longer feels ashamed of his appearance," said surgeon Mikhail Kolibelkin.
According to the specialist, this case is a vivid example proving that reconstructive surgery can fundamentally improve not only a person's appearance but also their quality of life.
It's worth noting that such achievements in the medical field have been increasing recently. Recently, it was reported that Uzbek doctors had also successfully removed a malignant tumor from a 7-year-old girl's brain. Although the baby's mother was previously told "their lifespan is at most six months," local specialists managed to save the baby's life.
