The Taliban government in Afghanistan confirmed that it carried out strikes against Pakistani troops at several mountainous points in the country’s northern border areas. The official information noted that the number of casualties has not yet been disclosed.
The Pakistani side, in turn, called the Taliban attacks a “response operation,” speaking about a market that was bombed in reply to claims of Afghanistan’s airspace being violated on Thursday. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi described the Afghan attacks as “malicious,” emphasized that civilians were targeted, and warned that countermeasures would be taken if necessary.
Islamabad accuses Kabul of sheltering armed groups carrying out attacks in Pakistan. The Taliban rejects these accusations. According to the BBC, in Pakistan’s Kurram district both sides used small arms and artillery.
Experts are calling on the parties to exercise restraint and engage in diplomatic dialogue so that the situation does not escalate again.
