New details have emerged about the attack on Munir Nasraoui, the father of Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal. According to the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, the incident took place on August 14, 2024, in the Roca Fonda district of Mataró, Catalonia — the same neighborhood where Yamal grew up. The “304” gesture the footballer makes after scoring a goal refers to this area’s postal code.
Reports say Nasraoui was stabbed several times during a parking lot altercation. Witnesses stated that he tried to run away, but the attacker chased him down and stabbed him two or three times in the chest and side. Nasraoui was rushed to a hospital in Badalona in critical condition, where doctors described his injuries as “life-threatening.” He spent several days in intensive care.
Investigators say the confrontation began over a minor misunderstanding. Earlier, someone had poured water on Nasraoui from a third-floor balcony, which led to an argument. According to one witness, Nasraoui said: “That’s unacceptable, I was just walking peacefully. A good lawyer will handle this — or we’ll talk later.” Six hours later, he was attacked in the parking lot.
The accused claim they acted in self-defense. They allege that Nasraoui punched one of them during the altercation, breaking his nose, and that the knife belonged to one of Nasraoui’s acquaintances. Because of this, Nasraoui is now being questioned not as a victim but as a suspect.
The 39-year-old gave testimony in Mataró court two weeks ago. Several witnesses were questioned separately on the day of the incident, and their statements form the basis of the current investigation.
Police have arrested four suspects, one of whom — accused of carrying out the stabbing — was later released on bail and hired a new lawyer. He claims that Nasraoui attacked first and that he only acted in self-defense.
The case is still being examined in court. Although Nasraoui has recovered, debates around the incident continue. Catalan media describe the situation as “a serious ordeal for the Yamal family.”
