Scientists are getting closer to confirming the existence of dark matter, which makes up most of the universe. They studied gamma radiation detected at the center of the Milky Way and said the phenomenon may be related to dark matter.
Dark matter does not absorb, reflect, or emit light. According to scientists’ calculations, it makes up 27% of the universe.
Researchers say the gamma rays may result from collisions of dark matter particles or from rapidly rotating neutron stars. For now, both hypotheses are considered equally likely.
Experts hope that a new telescope being built in Chile will provide a clearer answer to this question.
