A discovery that astonished the global scientific community has been made in Karakalpakstan — fossilized remains of a dinosaur that lived about 75 million years ago have been found in the Sultan Uvays Mountains. This was reported by the State Geological Museum of Uzbekistan.
According to the data, the excavation was carried out during a joint expedition of scientists from Karakalpak State University and the Geological Museum. During the study, bone fragments presumably belonging to an ancient predatory lizard — vertebrae parts, a shinbone, and other elements — were found.
According to Ahmadjon Akhmedshaev, director of the Geological Museum, the remains belong to the Cretaceous period, and their exact classification and species will be announced after laboratory analyses involving international experts.
At present, the unique samples are being studied in scientific laboratories using special equipment. The results of the research are expected to provide important insights into dinosaur evolution and the geological history of Central Asia.
Scientists describe this finding as a new stage in paleontological research in Uzbekistan.
