Discoveries from different periods are common on Poland's Baltic coast, but this time local historians encountered an artifact that is indeed of historical significance, Muzeum Historii Ziemi Kamieńskiej reported.

As a result of strong storms on the coast near the city of Kamen, the slopes of the earth eroded, and an ancient artifact, which had been stored underground for almost three thousand years, was brought to the surface. It turned out to be a metal dagger, dating back to approximately 800-450 BC, decorated with a crescent shape and geometric patterns.

The find was discovered by history enthusiasts Yatsek Ukovsky and Katazhina Gerzhik while walking along the shore after the storm. They took out a metal object that gleamed in the layer of clay and immediately informed the museum director, Gjegoj Kurka.

The dagger is 24 centimeters long and is distinguished not only by its decorations but also by the quality of its processing. The handle is sharp, and its manufacture demonstrates a high level of mastery in the metal art of that time. According to Kurka, this artifact could be one of the rarest Iron Age artifacts found in Poland.

According to Ancient Origins, not only the geometric patterns of the dagger, but also its general shape indicate that it was used not for battle, but for ritual or religious purposes. The rich decorations and absence of battle traces further reinforce this idea.

At the same time, its balanced structure and strength prompted some researchers to think differently - according to them, the dagger was likely a weapon belonging to a high-ranking warrior.

The director of the museum, Gjegoj Kurka, commented on the origin of the dagger: "This item was probably made in one of the metalworking centers of that time - in modern Italy, Austria, or the Balkan region. Later, it may have been transported north, to Poland, via ancient trade routes."

Currently, the dagger is being stored under special conditions, and laboratory analyses to be conducted in the coming weeks will determine its exact composition, age, and function.

Historians consider this finding as evidence of great importance for the culture of the Iron Age of Europe. The Baltic coast once again vividly demonstrated the ancient traces of human civilization.
