Picasso's "Woman with a Floral Hat" sells for $37 million

At an auction held in Paris, Pablo Picasso’s painting titled “Bust of a Woman in a Flower Hat (Dora Maar)” was sold for 37 million dollars, according to “Associated Press.”

The work was initially estimated at between 9 and 11.6 million dollars, but it was ultimately sold for nearly four times the expected price. The painting is a portrait of Dora Maar — the muse and lover of the famous artist.

Picasso created this work in July 1943. A year later, it passed into a private collection, where it had been kept for more than 80 years. Experts described the condition of the painting as “excellent.”

Dora Maar herself was also an artist and photographer. Her relationship with Picasso lasted from 1936 to 1945.

Art critics note that this work not only reflects Picasso’s period of love and inspiration but also reveals his psychological state during the years of World War II.
