In New Zealand, 100 magnets were removed from a child's intestine

In New Zealand, a 13-year-old boy underwent a serious operation due to magnets purchased online. According to The Guardian, after the child swallowed approximately 100 strong neodymium magnets, doctors performed surgery to remove them from his intestines.

The teenager, suffering from severe abdominal pain for four days, was hospitalized in the Tauranga hospital. X-ray results showed that the magnets penetrated the intestinal wall and caused tissue necrosis in several places.

Doctors reported that the magnets swallowed by the child had high strength, attracting each other inside the intestine and damaging the organ walls. During the operation, surgeons removed dead tissue from several parts of the small and large intestines. The operation, which saved the child's life, lasted more than five hours.

Interestingly, this type of magnet has been banned from sale in New Zealand since 2013. However, the teenager purchased them through the online trading platform Temu. The company announced the start of an internal investigation into this situation.

"An investigation is currently underway. It has not yet been officially confirmed that the magnets were purchased through Temu, but the list of all dangerous products is being reviewed," the company said in a statement.

Experts note that such conditions can subsequently lead to serious complications such as intestinal obstruction, hernia, and constant pain. Therefore, they urge parents to pay serious attention to online purchases for young children and adolescents.
