
In Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, a statesman and former presidential adviser, Yerzhan Babakumarov, was beaten to death.
According to reports, the 56-year-old former official died on the evening of October 29 from severe injuries to his head and body. Police stated that the tragedy occurred following a quarrel between two men who had met earlier.
The suspect was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. Investigators are currently studying the motives of the crime and the exact circumstances of the incident.
Yerzhan Babakumarov was born on March 2, 1969, in the Taldykorgan region. He was a candidate of political sciences and held important positions in Kazakhstan’s state administration.
Since 1996, he had worked in the Presidential Administration, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the Central Communications Service, occupying various responsible posts. From 2019 to 2022, he also served as Deputy Mayor of Almaty.
Currently, Astana police have opened a criminal case for murder, and the investigation is ongoing. Experts note that this incident may cause a significant resonance in the country’s political circles.
