During a fire that broke out on October 31 in a multi-story building in Sochi, Russia, the bravery of Uzbek driver Sherzod Namozov amazed thousands. He saved a mother and her child who were in mortal danger.

According to witnesses, when the upper floors of the building on Alpyskaya Street were engulfed in flames, a woman and her child were calling for help from a window. At that moment, Sherzod, who had just dropped off a client in his taxi, noticed the situation and rushed to help.

He climbed out through a window on the lower floor, first rescuing the child, then using a ladder to help the woman down. Both were saved unharmed.

Sherzod Namozov is from Uchqizil neighborhood in Termez district, Surkhandarya region, Uzbekistan. He works as a driver in Russia.

“When you see someone in need, it’s only natural to help. I just did my human duty,” he said later.

According to Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire covered about 600 square meters. Three people were rescued, and several others were injured.

Experts called Sherzod’s act a true example of heroism and humanity.
