In Omsk, doctors extracted a live caterpillar from a woman's eye

The incident in Omsk, Russia, shocked both the doctors and the patient. According to the Ministry of Health, local doctors managed to remove a live parasite - a live worm - from the woman's eye.

According to the report, the patient contacted the emergency department complaining that "I feel something moving under my eyebrows." When the ophthalmologist conducted an examination, a living parasite moving under the eye was indeed detected. The doctor carefully removed the parasite and advised the patient to go to the infectious diseases department.

Subsequently, it was discovered that the affected parasite belonged to a species called "dyrophilyaria." This parasite usually enters the human body from diseased animals through mosquitoes. According to medical workers, such cases are recorded at least three to four times a year.

Experts emphasize that dirofilaria does not reach the stage of reproduction or sexual maturity in the human body, therefore it does not pose a danger to others. However, it can grow up to 15-18 centimeters in length in the human body. This causes noticeable discomfort and pain around the eyes or face.

It is worth noting that a similar incident recently occurred in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. There, doctors removed more than ten parasitic worms from the brain of a 10-year-old child during a complex surgical operation.

Doctors urge citizens to observe personal hygiene, be careful with animals, and take measures to protect themselves from mosquitoes.
