Researchers at Ben-Gurion University in Israel have published an important scientific result showing how the human body naturally fights the aging process. Scientists have identified immune cells that were previously unknown but could be of great importance in slowing down the aging process.
These newly discovered cells are a special type of CD4 T-cells, which have been proven to have the ability to destroy "zombi" cells that accumulate in the body. Although sensecent cells stop multiplying over time, they maintain their activity in the organism and begin to release harmful substances. These substances cause a prolonged form of inflammation, damage tissues, and become one of the main causes of many age-related diseases.
The study showed for the first time at the molecular level that CD4 T-cells begin to transition into a special "fighter" form called CD4-Eomes under the influence of sensing cells. These warrior cells detect and destroy "zombi" cells, preventing them from multiplying excessively in the body.
In experiments conducted on mice, it was confirmed that the appearance of CD4-Eomes cells is directly related to the presence of sensing cells. That is, it became clear that the immune system "saw" the aging process and naturally responded to it. In the experiment, when the activity of CD4-Eomes cells was artificially suppressed, a sharp increase in the number of aging "zombi" cells was observed.
Additional studies conducted on the model of liver cirrhosis also showed that these immune cells reduce the process of tissue destruction and suppress the symptoms of aging.
Scientists believe this discovery could prove that the immune system has its own anti-aging mechanism, opening a new direction in slowing down biological aging. In the future, there is a possibility of preventing age-related diseases by enhancing the activity of CD4-Eomes cells with special methods. However, more comprehensive research is still needed for this to become a practice.
The newly discovered mechanism is undoubtedly a promising direction for a person in the fight against aging.
