The Russian Federation considers the draft amendments to the peace plan for Ukraine, presented by European leaders, "non-constructive and unacceptable," stated Yuri Ushakov, aide to the Russian President, on Monday, November 24. This sharp statement was made at a time when the US and Ukrainian delegations developed a "basic document" in Geneva.
Moscow's Conditions
"There are many rumors circulating around the peace plan for Ukraine, the Russian Federation trusts only information received directly from the United States," TASS quoted Putin's aide. Ushakov stated that Moscow is "familiar with one of the variants of the US peace plan, and many of its points are acceptable to Russia." However, there have been no specific negotiations on this variant yet. He expressed hope that Washington would contact Moscow soon for open discussion of the "peace plan" details, but did not mention Ukraine and Europe as potential negotiators.
Success in Geneva
On the night of November 24, Ukrainian and US officials announced that an updated "framework document" for achieving peace in Ukraine had been prepared as a result of effective negotiations involving the delegations of the two countries in Geneva. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the reworked plan has great potential for implementation. The White House said the updated plan should be presented to the Russian side once again.
Trump's Optimism and European Influence
US President Donald Trump posted on his social media about "possible progress" in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, expressing an optimistic view: "Don't believe it until you see it, but something good may happen." At the same time, it became known that the European side proposed to significantly soften a number of important points in favor of Kyiv, aimed at ending the war. According to media reports, the Trump administration's initial plan of 28 points was shortened to 19 points after the Geneva talks. Journalists write that the basis of the plan is not one of the European projects, but the initial proposal of the United States.
